Surrounded by weekend crowds, a thought struck: "If I could sell one t-shirt to a fraction of these people..."
That moment of clarity became Golmaal.
Starting with Nothing
A pattern master. A tailor. Friends who believed. Zero fashion experience.
But I was clear: create a women's brand that filled the gap in high-street fashion. Fashionable. Quirky. Well-priced.
In Australia, I'd studied brands like Giordano and Billabong. I wanted to bring that energy to India—with deep understanding of local needs.
The Innovation: Fit First
Fit is to clothing what taste is to food.
The challenge: Indian women's body types vary dramatically. After extensive experimentation, I developed a fit formula ensuring every woman could find garments that truly fit.
We pioneered Made-to-Measure at high-street locations. Perfect fit at slight premium. This wasn't about clothes—it was about confidence through design that respected real people.

The Tech Awakening
Managing this complexity broke every off-the-shelf ERP. So I partnered with a brilliant engineer—ex-IIT Mumbai, Wall Street veteran. He coded our custom ERP from his living room, using his TV as monitor.
That system became our competitive advantage. It handled everything—design workflows, production scheduling, multi-location inventory.
That's when I fell in love with technology. Seeing how the right systems could amplify human capability and create advantages impossible to replicate.
What Mattered Most
Team members from inception stayed until exit. Some offered to buy the retail operations.
We didn't just build a business. We built a culture where people wanted to grow and stay.
This human-centered approach—whether for perfect clothing fit or team culture—would later inform how I think about AI that truly understands human needs.
